National Coin Week: What’s in your pocket?

National Coin Week: What’s in your pocket? If you are like most people, you collect loose change somewhere in your house. Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters can add up to what feels like “free money” when you cash it in.  Are you making the most of your loose change or are you leaving it for the sofa monster? April 16-22 marks the 94th annual National Coin Week. The theme for 2017 is “Conflict and Courage: Money and the Military.” This year marks the 100th anniversary of the United States involvement in World War I. For numismatists and coin collectors across the country, the annual celebration will focus on money and the military throughout history, including ancient coins celebrating battles, siege money of the Renaissance and more. If you have an interest in coin collecting, the Fort Lauderdale Coin & Stamp Show will be held April 16 at Volunteer Park in Plantation, Fla. (near Sawgrass Mall). With free parking, admission and appraisals, the show is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is produced by the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club. Pocket Change: Hobby or Habit? Even if coin collecting is not a hobby, it can be a great personal habit. Saving your pocket change is a simple way to build an emergency cushion. Stowed away in a piggy bank or a jar, you can save without even noticing. You might consider adding a dollar or two to your coins to increase your savings every day. Looking to turn coins into cash?
